Telford based Paul Roscoe Manufacturing is a major importer and distributor of soft furnishings to the retail market. They employ a mixed workforce of around 80 employees, spread over two sites.
Lotte Gydesen is responsible for the time and attendance administration. “Our original system used magnetic swipe cards and we always had a problem with employees losing them. We thought the fingerprint scanner alternative would be ideal, as employees would just have to key in their number and present their finger to clock in and out.”
“We tried using a fingerprint biometric terminal for some time, but found it to be very problematic. Enrolling a user sucessfully was cumbersome enough, but when an employee came to clock in or out it took too long to verify their identity. When there is a queue of several employees waiting to go home, two or three seconds per person was not good enough. To make matters worse, it was commonplace for employees to have to try two or three times to sucessfully clock out!”
“Changing to a Hand Scan terminal has been an ideal solution. To enrol an employee takes seconds and it is very easy to do. Also, there are hardly any problems clocking in and out, as the Hand Scan terminal shows the employee exactly where to place their hand with the use of indicator lights.”
“Of course we do have the odd problem with an employee clocking in, but it is nowhere close to the problems we were having with the fingerprint reader. Overall, we are very happy with both the Hand Scan terminal and the auto:time premium software. It has definately been worth the extra investment, not least by saving money in replacement clock cards and preventing employees clocking each other in and out.”
